There are just some dishes that I know I’ll never attempt making. For example, too much can go wrong while making lasagna. Just a couple of weeks ago, I tried making those delicious peanut butter cookies with the chocolate kisses in the center.
I could not find any baking soda for the life of me in my house. Instead of taking a trip to the supermarket, I decided to rummage around and try to find something to substitute it for. Now I’m still not sure what it was, but there was a plastic container at the back of the cabinet. It had a whole bunch of white powder in it. Tasting it was out of the question. I figured it had to be either baking soda or powder. I crossed my fingers and silently prayed that it would the former, and went for it.

I know what you’re thinking: why are we writing about cranberry sauce twice in a row? Well, for one thing: it’s Thanksgiving, but also, if you read on you’ll find out why this cranberry sauce post is different than the one below it. Maxine and I both decided to look for a new cranberry sauce for this year’s Thanksgiving, but my quest for a twist on this Thanksgiving staple had a very different ending.

As a Recipe4Living editor, I receive a lot of emails with questions and tidbits about food and recipes and the like. The other day a woman sent me an e-mail about Beaujolais Nouveau with a little poem she wrote about this apparent wine. She touted: “This my little item about 2008 Beaujolais Nouveau. It’s funny, because I just met a group of people who had never heard of it - then, they thought they would have to buy a case if they had it ordered! Oh well, it takes all kinds, I suppose.”
Well, I have a confession to make: up until this e-mail, I had no idea what Beaujolais Nouveau was! In fact, I’m still not quite sure I’m clear on the concept but I am intrigued and I would totally be one to want to try a case of the stuff in spite of my lack of knowledge! So, I want to know: Am I alone in this? Did you know what Beaujolais Nouveau was and did you buy some this year?
Read on for an explanation of Beaujolais Nouveau.

I haven’t made many pies before (in fact the last pie I made was on “Pi Day”), but as soon as I saw these pie pumpkins on sale at the grocery store, I knew I’d be making pumpkin pie this fall season in some way, shape or form. But I didn’t want just any pumpkin pie, I wanted something different - a deviation from the old yawn of a classic we all serve at our Thanksgiving tables. I wanted tarts. With chocolate on them.
Recipe after the jump!
