National Sauce Month

pesto

Are you one of those people that puts some kind of sauce on every meal you eat? I know several people just like that, and the first that comes to my mind is my boyfriend. Even if the food is already perfectly seasoned or tasty as is, he’ll douse it with any sauce he can get his hands on. Barbecue sauce, sweet and sour, hot sauce, honey mustard, they’re all winners in his book. It can be really frustrating though because sometimes the sauce compromises the original flavor that was intended.

Tips for Lent Fasting

VGKids Sticker Template

For Lent this year, I’ll be giving up meat. It’s day three and I already feel like I’m being majorly challenged. I’m a picky eater as it is, so cutting out all my chicken and beef isn’t giving me as many options for dinner. The first year that I fasted from meat, I was eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches almost every day. Thankfully, over the years, I’ve learned a few tricks to survive the Lenten season without feeling too starved of protein.

Rigatoni with Vodka Sauce and Chicken

Whenever I go out for Italian, there is one dish that I always want to order: rigatoni a la vodka. It might not always be on the menu but so long as I know they have vodka sauce and rigatoni, that’s what I request. So, when I saw that Tuscan Vodka was a flavor choice in Sauces N’ Love new Scarpetta line of pasta sauces, I knew that I’d be making rigatoni a la vodka sometime in the near future.

Product Review: Ronzoni Bistro

ronzoni image

I would be a terrible writer if I started this post with something as cliche as “don’t judge a book by its cover.” Although I suppose in this case, it’s more like “don’t judge the pasta by its pouch.” But it’s true, many of you foodies out there might raise your eyebrows at the idea of pasta and sauce in a microwavable pouch ready in only 90 seconds! But before you jump to conclusions, you may want to read what some of our pleasantly surprised Product Testers had to say about Ronzoni Bistro products!

Here’s a preview…

“This was very easy to prepare, in the microwave for 90 minutes then into the bowl.”

“My 12 year old son asked if I had another package for him to have for supper. He was disappointed when I had to tell him no!”

“Finally!  A ready-to-eat pasta product that tastes homemade!”

Convenience at Its Best: Pesto Paste

So I know it’s the middle of summer and I’m supposed to be going on and on about the multitudes of basil my plants are producing and how I just cannot make enough pesto to keep up! The truth is, I wish I could be that person. But alas, my wee basil plant is recovering from the last major harvest, leaving me waiting patiently for my next opportunity.

I actually had every intention of making some homemade pesto last week, but had made the mistake of clipping off the basil from the plant too early, leaving me with wilted, brown leaves. Yuck. Of course at this point I was already craving the salty zing of pesto, so I moved on to Plan B: pesto paste.
