Last week, our readers went crazy for the Bacon and Sour Cream Chicken Crockpot recipe we posted on Recipe4Living.com. Obviously we were curious to what all the fuss was about. Bacon wrapped chicken slow cooked in a sour cream sauce? My stomach got full just thinking about it. But we love our readers so we wanted to try it out ourselves. At the office we were stumped with which editor would be brave enough to take on this potentially heart clotting recipe at home. As the newbie, I swiftly accepted the challenge.
I decided immediately that I would embrace this recipe for what it was, and of course invite as many twentysomething males over to eat the inevitable leftovers. This recipe has the post-college carnivorous man-child written all over it.
I must admit grocery shopping for this recipe was a dream. Five ingredients, three of which I already had at home? I call that a win. The prep time and mess was also mild. I dirtied a whole three dishes. Another bonus, it was my first time using a crockpot in a while, so I had forgotten the sheer bliss in cooking something, going out for the day, and coming home to delicious home cooked meal. All of these factors made for an easy. no-fuss, man-friendly Sunday meal.
Naturally I documented my cooking endeavor. Here’s how it went down: Read the rest of this entry »

I love reality television. One of my favorite reality shows is Celebrity Apprentice, mainly because it’s the television equivalent of a three-ring circus. Plus, the celebrities playing act crazy to win money for their charity, so it’s a win-win. The first half of the finale was this past weekend, and finalists Trace Adkins and Penn Jillette were tasked with creating a unique flavor of Delish Ice cream from Walgreens. My friend and I have a running joke that involves us going to some out-of-the-way diner and the waitress being a rude old woman with a smoker’s rasp. Instead of having menus, she only asks “you want eggs” over and over again. If I were to ask if they had pancakes, she’d say “we’ve got eggs” and the vicious cycle would continually repeat itself. Eventually, we’d have to break down and order eggs. While that may be one hell of way to start a blog post about eggs, I thought the title would’ve tipped you off. Keep reading for why eggs are one of the most versatile and beloved ingredients in the kitchen. Read the rest of this entry »

That picture from A Cozy Kitchen basically sums up why I love fried food so much. In case you’re wondering, those are some delicious (if not initially strange-sounding) fried pickles. If you’ve never had them, do yourself a favor and make this recipe. But back to the heart (attack) of the matter: I love a battered and fried food served hot with a side of cool dipping sauce, preferably buttermilk ranch. I like to jokingly say that they aren’t “beer battered,” they’re “beer bettered.” It’s funny because it’s true. Keep reading for some of my favorite fried foods.
