We gave you a rundown on salmonella last week, since millions of eggs have been tainted. Now we’re giving you an update, and we’re sorry that it isn’t a happy one. It’s actually really gross, and it will probably make me think twice about eating eggs for a while. Government reports made a grim discovery regarding the conditions at the two Iowa egg producers that are at the forefront of the egg recall. Filthy doesn’t even begin to describe what they found. 580 million eggs have been recalled all over the U.S. so far, and the numbers might continue to increase. Salmonella is the culprit, and a farm in Iowa seems to be the source.
Wright County Egg and Hillandale Farms, Trafficanda Egg Ranch issued a voluntary egg recall on the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) website because the eggs were associated with a salmonella outbreak. Millions of shell eggs in medium, large, extra large, and jumbo cartons have been recalled. After the jump, learn all about salmonella.

On Tuesday, I gave you an entire menu based on all the teams that made qualified in the 2010 World Cup. Now there are only two teams left, spicy Spain and underrated Netherlands. It should be an exciting game, with two European teams, one of which wasn’t predicted to go very far at all. There are just some dishes that I know I’ll never attempt making. For example, too much can go wrong while making lasagna. Just a couple of weeks ago, I tried making those delicious peanut butter cookies with the chocolate kisses in the center.
I could not find any baking soda for the life of me in my house. Instead of taking a trip to the supermarket, I decided to rummage around and try to find something to substitute it for. Now I’m still not sure what it was, but there was a plastic container at the back of the cabinet. It had a whole bunch of white powder in it. Tasting it was out of the question. I figured it had to be either baking soda or powder. I crossed my fingers and silently prayed that it would the former, and went for it.
