The Military Diet

Yesterday my friend and I were hanging out when she began telling me about this diet she was going to try out. I immediately thought to myself, “Oh great, another diet where you can only eat carrots for 5 days.” But when she began reading off the meal plan for The Military Diet, I was shocked that the list actually included real food and meals. I mean, you actually get to eat ice cream on this diet. I was highly intrigued and after doing some research about the diet, I’m going to try it too!

5 Benefits to a Gluten-Free Diet

I have horrible eczema on my hands and when I was searching the web for a way to treat it (something I wouldn’t usually recommend if you’re a hypochondriac like me) I found some interesting information about how eczema can sometimes be treated by following a gluten-free diet. Now, the idea originally sounded horrible to me — I mean how can I possibly live without my fried foods? However, after some research, it seems that living a gluten-free lifestyle can provide more than just skin benefits.

For those of you that don’t know, gluten is a protein that is found in wheat, grains and some cereals. One of gluten’s main roles is to keep certain food’s elasticity undamaged during the fermentation process of food production. A gluten-free diet is usually associated with celiac disease, which is a condition where the small intestine is sensitive to gluten. Recently, people not even suffering from celiac disease are turning to a gluten free diet to reap its advantages.

The holiday season begins in about a month. If your neighborhood stores are anything like mine, the Halloween displays are flanked by Thanksgiving and Christmas displays… already. Bowls full of candy are starting to fill everyone’s homes, and you’ll of course have to sample the trick-or-treating fare delivered by your children. Come Thanksgiving, we’ll eat a week’s worth of calories in one splendid sitting. Inevitably, the Christmas season will force us to do the same. Six days later, we’ll be ringing in the New Year, and as we slide into that party dress, we’ll realize that we need to make a resolution to lose weight.
