Breakfast sandwiches are the bomb dot com. I think a breakfast sandwich is one of the most filling morning meals that I can make, and there are so many different varieties, I never get bored! Which bread do you want? Do you want to include meat? Should there be greens? Any sauce? How about eggs? So many choices, and they’ll all hit the spot! In my family, we don’t just spend time with each other just for Easter brunch. That would be too easy. We attend Midnight Mass, and arrive at our church around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday night. We stay until the service ends (around 12:30 a.m. on Easter Sunday) and then we head over to my grandparents home. Keep in mind, we’ll be waking up around 7 a.m. to get the lamb spit started.
My grandmother usually goes to church on Easter morning, so she can spend Saturday night preparing a feast for us. Yep, Greek Orthodox Easter really does begin when the clock strikes 12. Keep reading to find out some of what my yiayia (grandma in Greek) prepares for us.

Easter is coming soon! Okay, it’s still a couple weeks away, but that doesn’t mean I can’t start to get excited. While I do love Christmas, Easter is filled with my favorite foods: lamb, pastitso and lots of other Greek dishes. One of my favorite foods is tsoureki. Never heard of it before? Around Easter, I have always seen beautiful braided breads decorated with colored Easter eggs in local bakeries. I always thought they were pretty, but I never knew anything about them.
