As Easy As Apple Pie

applepie1

Over the weekend I made an apple pie that was not only easy but delicious too. Growing up,  I was never a big apple pie fan. In fact, it wasn’t until recently that apple pie even appealed to me. There is something to be said about  homemade apple pie with homemade filling. The freshness preserves the texture and the taste making a much better pie if you ask me.

A Few Bad Apples

Even though I have been blessed with recipe success lately, the other day I had quite the opposite situation. I attempted to bake apples and they were terrible. They were mushy, had absolutely no flavor, and were completely discolored from the heat (completely the opposite of these). I was distraught. The whole reason I was baking apples in the first place was to stir memories of the delicious baked apples my grandma made when I was little. Her apples would puff up, the skin would almost flake off, and most importantly, they tasted good. Unfortunately, I don’t seem to have my grandma’s touch.

Easy Caramel Apple Recipe

I’ve always wanted to make my own caramel apples. They’re fun, they’re tasty, and they’re one of the best parts of fall. Well, this new addition to Recipe4Living is a recipe for the perfect caramel apples with a healthy twist! Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not calling these bad boys healthy, but they do incorporate trail mix into their outer caramel glaze. When was the last time you had a caramel apple with raisins and nuts?

How To Make Your Own Apple Cider

This Sunday will officially start the fall season, meaning lots of pumpkins, lots of squash, and lots of apples. While I love pumpkin, apples and all apple byproducts are also a favorite part of my fall season, especially apple cider. How nice is it to cuddle up to a warm glass of apple cider? The cinnamon, the spice…all of it really puts the beauty of fall into perspective. And, since we all know I like to at least attempt to make things from scratch

Cilck here for a guide on how to make your own cider!

Crumbly Apple Pie

Fresh Homemade Apple Pie

As much as I hate to admit it or even bear the thought of typing these words: fall is approaching. Here in Chicago, temperatures have been dropping, just like the rain making it almost official that summer is on its way out. Yes, you know how I hate the cold weather. But, thank goodness for the squash, the pears, the pumpkin, and the apples that will soon make their presence known at the farmer’s markets and riddle themselves in salads and soups and even desserts. If it weren’t for the glorious food, I’m not sure what I’d do.

I’d also like to thank someone who goes by the name of barcogifts on Recipe4Living, who submits delicious, exciting, and refreshing fall recipes like Crumbly Apple Pie. It’s recipes like these that really make fall something to look forward to! A cross between a crumb cake and an apple pie, this recipe is certainly one I plan to make.

Check it out after the jump!
