Still Going Strong

It’s been over 5 months since my first post on the new acai berry products I had scoped out at the grocery stores. And it seems the super antioxidant-laden fruit is still going strong!

Say it with me: A-sigh-ee

A lot of people hate going grocery shopping with me. I take too long. I wander. And…ok, mainly I’m just slow. But I’m not ashamed. I’m proud of my lengthy grocery trips, because they are the reason I discover new (or newly appearing) foods like this:

Acai juices

Pictured here are just a few of a whole slew of new juices, smoothies, and teas made from acai berries that come from the acai palm trees of Brazil. I was intrigued. What was this new berry I had never heard of that was crowding the refrigerated shelves? Lucky for me, I work for a food Web site where others besides me can benefit from the research I then conducted (you can see my article here if you’re interested.)

Anyway, I wound up buying a bottle or two of acai juice smoothies that made promises of meal substitutions and antioxidants galore. Apparently,” a-sigh-ee” is supposed to taste like chocolate but…I don’t taste it. I think it tastes salty, kind of like olives. It’s unique, to say the least.

I’d probably get it again though because it’s a “superfruit” and that’s pretty cool. As you might guess from my POM tea consumption habits, I do love my antioxidants.
