Cupcake Shoe Walk Through
A couple weeks ago on R4L’s Facebook page we shared an adorable picture of high heel shoe cupcakes from Grandma’s Bakery in Wisconsin. We got a huge response from all our fans! The Contributors at R4L thought those cupcakes were so cute that we needed to make some of our own.

The essential ingredients that we gathered from the picture were: Milano cookies, Pirouette cookies, cupcakes and copious amounts of frosting.
And believe me, there was lots of frosting.
The cupcakes we mixed up from scratch using a delicious Vanilla Cupcake recipe. Just for fun we added a healthy half cup of rainbow sprinkles.Margarita and Red Velvet cupcakes were close seconds, but for the first try we decided to go with a classic. Unfortunately Pirouette cookies were out of stock at our grocery store so we subbed in goldenrod pretzels.
So without further ado, here are our tips and pics for making high heel cupcakes of your own!
Our cupcakes in progress. As you can see, the process got pretty messy. But the fun you’ll have decorating is worth the cleanup, I promise!
I would say that the most difficult part of making the cupcakes was frosting them neatly.
Viola! Our finished products! Eight pairs of high heel shoe cupcakes, throw in a bottle of Skinny Girl Margarita and a fun night was had by all.
If you’re interested in making your own cupcakes, here are some tips from our experience.
Don’t sub in goldenrod pretzels. They go stale really quickly when left out in the open air and then they are not tasty to eat. The pretzels were also a little too thin to give the cupcake stability. Make sure you have the Pirouettes or another long cookie before you begin!
Do make your own frosting. Using store bought frosting was good for convenience’s sake, but it was difficult to decorate with. A frosting with a little thicker consistently would have worked well for a neater looking cupcake. I may make them again just to see how adorable they’d look with theSparkling Cupcake Frosting! Just add a few drops of food coloring and pick up a few frosting-decorating bags with tips and you can decorate without blowing the week’s budget in the baking section.
Don’t forget to measure the length of the heel. As the saying goes, “measure twice, cut once.” In this case, measure twice and you won’t have a lopsided pair of heels!
Do make it a Girls Night. Pour yourself a glass of bubbly and invite your best girlfriends over for a fun night of baking and decorating. We brought along a bottle of Skinny Girl Margarita, but it’s twice as fun to make your own margaritas, or even a yummy daiquiri for the hot summer weather.
