Cocktails with a ZING!

Anyone who knows me, knows I love a good cocktail. One of my favorite things to do is go out with girlfriends and try new interesting drinks. So you can imagine how excited I was when the folks at Zing Anything sent me their new cocktail shaker/fruit infuser, conveniently called the ”Vodka Zinger”. This makes the fourth item in the Zing Anything collection, a suite of products that encourages the user infuse fresh and natural flavors into their beverages.

The Vodka Zinger gives you the power to be bartender. Think of any fruit, herb, or spice that would taste interesting in a cocktail, and voila, the Vodka Zinger will infuse it in your favorite spirit. Hot pepper vodka? Sure. Peach Pinot Grigio? Why not? I had so much fun experimenting with different flavor combinations. Even if you need some inspiration for getting started, the Zinger comes with some great recipes. I’ve listed a few of my favorites below.

Truthfully, I’ve never paid too much attention to “added sugars” or “artificial flavoring”, but I imagine that’s what makes up the majority of the flavors in the fruit vodka on the shelves today. It was comforting to know that the flavors in my vodka were all natural. Of course vodka isn’t the best thing for you, but vodka infused with fresh organic fruit is about as close to a healthy cocktail as you will get. And hey, that’s good enough for me.

I also loved the fact that many of the ingredients like strawberry, cucumber, hot pepper, raspberry, pineapple, rosemary, are ingredients you would typically have in your fridge anyway. The first time I used the zinger my roommate had just picked up fruit at the local farmer’s market, so I  combined pear, strawberries, blueberries, and a slice of fresh lime.

Quick editor’s tip: make sure you let the vodka seep for a little while before pouring. I let mine sit for at least an hour.
