Chipotle’s New Taste Test: The Sofrita
Have you heard about the new Sofritas from Chipotle Mexican Grill? If not, they sound delicious and I cannot wait until they make their national debut. Or debut in my next burrito bowl.
Sofritas are shredded tofu braised with chipotle chilis, roasted poblanos and a blend of aromatic spices. Not only does that sound wonderful, they are raising the stakes and continuing with their mission to provide great Food with Integrity. With the Sofritas being with organic, non-GMO tofu from Oakland’s Hodo Soy, they will be a welcomed addition to the menu.
The taste test for the Sofritas began in the San Francisco Bay area. And apparently it was a success. The company has expanded their taste test to Southern California on June 3, 2013. And I don’t know about you, but my fingers are crossed that it works out well.
I know I love going to Chipotle to make my vegetarian burrito bowls and burritos. And I am excited that now I will have an extra option to choose from. But don’t worry; this possible new menu item is not only for non-meat eaters. The taste should appeal to everyone who isn’t afraid to try something new. According to the press release, the CEO is standing behind this opinion.
“We are changing the way people think about and eat fast food,” said Steve Ells, Chipotle founder, chairman and co-CEO. “Sofritas is a very different menu item not just for Chipotle, but for any fast food or fast causal restaurant. It was really conceived with vegetarians and vegans in mind, but it’s so delicious that we believe it will have a broad appeal on taste alone.”
So go ahead and eat up, Southern California. I know I would love to try out the Sofritas over here in the Midwest.
