How To: Octopus Cake
This easy octopus cake is perfect for any kid who loves animals. Can you imagine the “Oohs” and “Aahs” this will bring when you serve it a birthday party? Everyone will think you’re the next great baker!
I spotted this clever creation on Better Homes and Gardens and I’m a little jealous I didn’t think of it first! For the cake itself, use whatever mix you like. Bake the cake in a 7-8 inch ovenproof glass bowl. Once the cake has cooled, frost it with the rounded side up. Use food coloring to create whatever shade you want your octopus to be.
Now comes the decorating! To make the tentacles, use Fruit by the Foot candy or rolled fruit leather strips and tuck them underneath the cake. Cut one large marshmallow in half to make the eyes. Then cut a gumdrop in half and attach them to the marshmallows with frosting to finish the eyes.
Decorate the rest of the cake with brightly colored candies like gumdrops, M&Ms or Skittles. Enjoy!
