Going all out?
The best way to make a Halloween party a success is to have interactive stations. It seems like a lot of work, but with a little help setting up, it’s really not that difficult! For an adult party, rent a vodka fountain. You can decorate the sides with cobwebs and use dry ice to create a spooky mist that will make your party room more mysterious. For kids, you can create a smaller version of a chocolate fountain where they can dip their candy (with help from mom and dad, of course). If you have use of a basement, attic or backyard, have some friends construct a mini-haunted house- you can always pay them in vodka and chocolate!
Keep things interactive with Halloween-themed games. Play a Halloween movie version of Charades or create an apple bobbing station outside. There are a variety of takes on typical games like “Pin the Tail on the Black Cat”- you can also tell scary stories around a backyard fire! If your interests lie in the paranormal, take out the dusty old Ouija board or play the levitation game “Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board”.
Keeping it simple?
If you are just gathering with a few friends, plan on a scary movie night. Make sure you have the movie night staples- movie theater candy, popcorn and drinks. If you want to step it up a bit, make some of our favorite ghoulish delights: Cheesy Eyeballs, Black Halloween Punch and a Haunted Gingerbread House. Make it a theme night: watch Halloween (and its sequels) or stick with the classics, like Invasion of the Body Snatchers and The Haunting.
If you want to hold a themed party, consider what your guests are interested in most. Are they fans of True Blood? Hand out wax fangs or bottles of faux blood. Do they consider themselves wizards like in Harry Potter? Accio (wizard-speak for sending for or summoning) some wands and glasses and hand them out to guests as they come in the door! Provide pumpkins for people to carve and make the party for for everyone, no matter what their interest!
