Fancy Food Friday: Pumpkin Painting

Ready for a great new idea for decorating your Halloween soiree? I stopped by this fantastic Halloween-themed store the other day, and they were decorating pumpkins right in front of us! Keep reading to see all the crafty pumpkins (YES, there are MORE PHOTOS!) and tell us what you think of all the beautiful veggies.

Pumpkin painting may look difficult, but we have the fool-proof way to make your pumpkin a unique and festive centerpiece or decoration!

1. Choose Paint. Buy 4 acrylic paint pens in black, white, and two fun colors that will pop on the pumpkin. We really liked the pumpkins that utilized a bubblegum pink and sky blue. We also like painting non-faces, such as the “Happy Halloween” pumpkin., in which you only need three colors. Strategize about what you want to paint, and the colors will follow.

2. Decide a Face. If you’re not usually an artist, sketching a face or finding a template online will help you be more comfortable with the entire process of painting a character. Use one of our pictures for inspiration and you’ll be most of the way there. Sketch your face on the pumpkin with a washable marker or pencil before you fill it in with a paint pen.

3. Painting! If you’re a beginner at painting, read these tips. Wait until each color completely dries, before adding a new color, because they will blend together if you don’t. Acrylic paint dries in about 5 minutes if you put on a medium coat, so it’s well worth the wait to have a sharp image on the pumpkin. If for some reason you do have some mixing of colors, wait for it to dry for a little while, and then paint over it completely!

4. Add a Bow. Use fabric ribbon in seasonal colors such as black, orange, purple, and white to make your pumpkin have a fancy, polished look. Shape the ribbons into a large bow that sits atop your pumpkin, and connect it to the stem or tape it on.

Enjoy your masterpiece once you’re done, and show it off! Set it as your centerpiece or on a side table. You’ll be sure to get so many compliments!

Tell us: Will you try this trend? What face or drawing will you make?
