Sweet Treats to Make for Mom!

Mother’s Day is on Sunday- are you ready?  Instead of doing the traditional Mother’s Day brunch or dinner, I think I’m going to bake my mother an indulgent treat this year.  I want to really spoil her!  That’s why I picked out some super tasty dessert recipes to possibly try out on Sunday! Check them out (plus pictures!) after the jump.

I decided to choose fruity desserts, as my mom loves ‘em and they have springy/summery feel to them.  Here are some I’m considering:

Chocolate Raspberry Avalanche Cake: An avalanche of raspberries and an avalanche of flavor! This beautiful, rich cake will impress any partygoers and satisfy any sweet tooth.

Fruit Dessert Pizza: This clever dessert is always a great choice for a party or potluck dinner.

Strawberry Vanilla Cheesecake: The following recipe uses fresh strawberries but frozen strawberries work well. We made this cheesecake with graham cracker crumbs; a nut crumb crust and a crust made from crushed vanilla wafers would pair well also. And of course, you can use raspberries, blueberries, peaches, mangoes, or other fruit for the topping. You will need a nine- or ten-inch springform pan for this recipe. The cheesecake pictured was baked and served in a nine-inch glass-base springform pan.

Razzle Dazzle Raspberry Pie: This easy pie bakes up beautifully and tastes even better. It is a great pie to make when you have an abundance of fresh raspberries, or it can be made with frozen whole berries when fresh are not in season. Serve with a dollop of fresh whipped cream or vanilla ice cream to make it even more special.

Choco-Cherry Cheesecake Bars: These are a beautiful delight to look at and indulge in eating.

Ina Garten’s Lemon Yogurt Cake: This cake is so moist it will soon become your favorite! The sweetness is not over-bearing and perfectly balances the tart lemon.

Which one of these desserts do you think your mother would like best?

I’ll take the cheesecake every time. Sadly my mom is no longer with us, so I can’t make it for her.
