How to Make Pico de Gallo + 6 Tasty Salsa Recipes!

If you’ve eaten Mexican food before, you’ve probably tried pico de gallo at least once or twice.  Pico de gallo literally translates to “rooster’s beak” and is a mixture of tomatoes, onions, peppers, cilantro, and few other ingredients.  You can use it in tacos, burritos, or just as a dip for chips.  Whatever way you use it, though, pico de gallo is an essential side dish for Cinco de Mayo. Learn how to make it after the jump, plus we’ll share 6 tasty salsa recipes for this fun Mexican holiday.

Here’s how to make this traditional salsa:

*3 plum tomatoes, chopped
*1/2 sm. red onion, chopped
*1/4 C. fresh lime juice
*2 Tbs. chopped fresh cilantro
*2 Tbs. chopped fresh jalapeno pepper
*1 1/2 tsp. salt

Stir all ingredients together.  Serve at room temperature.  Makes about 1 1/2 cups.
