Sandra Lee to Host World’s Biggest Bake Sale

If  you live in NYC, head over to Grand Central Station tomorrow, March 29th. Why, you ask?  Well, if you show up between 11:30am and 7pm, you will witness the world’s largest bake sale, hosted by Sandra Lee!  Not only will you be able to buy TONS of tasty baked goods, but you’ll also get to see several celebrity chefs in person!

So what is this all about, exactly?  Sandra Lee, in an effort to raise $50,000+ for the New York City Food Bank, has gathered together over 30 different vendors who will sell all sorts of cupcakes, cookies, and other goodies.  She’s trying to beat the record for the world’s largest bake sale, so judges from the Guinness Book of World Records will be in attendance.

Some other famous faces will also be in attendance tomorrow.  Mario Batali, Emeril Lagasse, Lidia Bastianich, and Chef Duff (of “Ace of Cakes”) will also be there to help Lee host the event.

Sandra says that this event will include both sweet and savory baked items, so if you’re not in the mood for dessert, there will be plenty of other options for you.  She also stressed that every dollar that is donated can be turned into $4.00 by the New York City Food Bank.  So be generous and remember that when you’re feeding yourself, you’ll be feeding 4 other people the same amount.

So if you’re in the NYC area, head over to Grand Central station (Vanderbilt Hall), grab a treat, and do your part to help the less fortunate!

Wonderful but definitely not the world’s largest bake sale – I have to believe that honor goes to mom Gretchen Holt Witt. Her first bake sale, which was the catalyst for Cookies for Kids’ Cancer, along with the help of 250 volunteers raised about $400,000 when they baked 96,000 cookies! Inspired by her son Liam’s diagnosis of neuroblastoma, a deadly childhood cancer (Liam passed on Jan 24th at the age of 6), Cookies for Kids’ Cancer has now raised more than $2.5 million towards childhood cancer research. The story is on their website and it’s incredibly inspiring.

I saw your ad for your Largest Bake sale Ever and think it is a great idea, with celebrity chefs. Especially with money going to the food bank. Many cities in the US have food bank like the one here in Raleigh which is constantly collecting food. You should do a US wide bake sale with celeb chefs across the country in each state. Connect them through the FOOD NETWORK (all day). Proceeds to that city’s food bank or divided to local banks. Now THAT could be the biggest EVER Bake Sale……
