How To Make A Go Roma Meal At Home!
I don’t eat out very often for a couple of reasons. First off, it’s expensive. If I go to a nice place, I don’t want a little bowl of soup. I’m going to go for creamy pasta or some baby-back-ribs. Number two, eating out isn’t very healthy. Yes, there may be a bunch of healthier options on the menu, but those aren’t going to be the things I order. But I’m not a complete lame, I swear. I do treat myself once a week.
Every Thursday, I go out to eat with two of my fellow Recipe4Living and Chew on That editors, but we stick to smaller places, such as Go Roma and Roti. The former has good Italian food, and the latter is all about healthier Middle Eastern cuisine. Keep reading for my Go Roma order choices! Plus, I’ll give you some similar recipes so you don’t have to travel to Go Roma. You can just make my meal at home!
In short, Go Roma is all about Real. Easy. Italian. That sounds about right. I don’t like to stick to one thing when I go out to eat. I’d much rather have a combo, either some soup/salad with pizza or a sandwich. That’s why Go Roma rocks. I always get the Go For 2. You get your choice of any of these two: soup, salad, 1/2 small pizza or 1/2 panini and fries. I’m all about salad and pizza.
1. Pear & Walnut Salad – Baby greens, pear, goat cheese, grape tomatoes, seasoned walnuts, dried cranberries, balsamic vinaigrette
2. Signature Cheese Pizza on Whole-Wheat Crust – Mozzarella and tomato sauce
The salad always hits the spot, and I can’t ever say no to pizza. Recipe4Living has some recipes that can almost pass for this meal. Here they are:
Asian Pear Salad – This salad is really comparable to Go Roma’s salad, except that it includes almonds instead of walnuts, and the ingredients all have an Asian flair. The salad includes hearts of romaine salad mix, pears, fresh mozzarella cheese, sesame ginger vinaigrette and oven-roasted sliced almonds.
Roquefort Pear Salad – Make this sweet salad with pears, Roguefort cheese, avocados, onions and caramelized pecans. Go Roma doesn’t use avocados in its salad, but let’s be honest, avocado makes everything better. Also, caramelized pecans are delicious. This salad might even be better than Go Roma’s!
Honey Dijon Pear Salad – A refreshingly sweet and savory salad that makes a perfect lunch or even a light dinner. The one difference between this salad and Go Roma’s is that this dressing uses light honey Dijon rather than a balsamic vinaigrette. But tons of other good stuff is still in here, including mixed Italian greens, pear, chopped dates and walnut pieces. Plus, there’s chicken!
Pear and Gorgonzola Green Salad – This salad is the closest to Go Roma’s. It’s so simple and delicious. In the mix, you’ll find pears, fresh lemon juice, Gorgonzola or other creamy blue cheese, mixed greens, vinaigrette dressing and walnuts.
Now on to the main part of the meal…pizza! You can’t go to an Italian restaurant without wanting a slice of pizza, at least that’s how I feel. My pizza at Go Roman is pretty basic, but I’ll try to spice it up a bit for you. Here are my top choices for a copycat Go Roma pizza:
Whole Wheat Pizza - This is a quick and simple recipe that makes a good pizza that is healthy for you. This is probably the most similar pizza I’ve found to Go Roma’s. It’s good for you, and it’s so basic. Mozzarella and tomato sauce are all I really need for a yummy pizza recipe!
Man What a Pizza – Most people I know want a little bit of meat on their pizzas. Go Roma also has tons of options when it comes to meat pizza toppings. This recipe is a manwich in pizza form! It contains sloppy joe mix, ground beef and all the goodness of pizza!
Clint’s Whole Wheat Chicago Style Pizza – Go Roma’s pizza is thin-crust, and I love it that way. But in Chicago, thick, stuffed pizza is the way to go. This recipe takes the healthy whole wheat crust and fills it with the all the greatness of Midwestern pizza.
Provolone Chicken Pizza – I just had to add this one to the list. Provolone and chicken…on a pizza?!? That just sounds too good to pass up. Maybe Go Roma can take a lesson from this one?
