Oatmeal Recipes + Tips for National Oatmeal Month!
January is National Oatmeal Month, and what a perfect time to celebrate! Not only is oatmeal a great breakfast to keep you warm on those chilly mornings, but oatmeal is a healthy ingredient that any New Year’s Resolution will welcome! Oatmeal is heart-healthy, high in fiber, and it releases energy slowly throughout the day, giving you long-lasting fuel for your body. Here are some tasty oatmeal recipes to help you celebrate and get you on track for the new year!
The best thing about oatmeal is that it can be customized for each and every person’s personal tastes. Does one of your kids hate blueberries but the other one loves them? No problem! Just put out some bowls of different toppings (i.e. fresh fruit, dried fruit, slivered nuts, brown sugar, etc.) and let everyone choose what they’d like. With oatmeal, you can create ten different breakfasts, but you’ll only have to cook one!
Here are my 5 favorite oatmeal recipes!
Deluxe Crockpot Oatmeal: Make this deluxe crockpot oatmeal recipe the night before and wake up to the wonderful smells of cinnamon and much more.
Peaches and Cream Oatmeal: This is a homemade oatmeal recipe made with fresh peaches and vanilla flavored yogurt for the “cream”. I use Splenda instead of sugar.
Swiss Oats (Cold Oatmeal): Saw this on a show that is all about healthy options. Don’t have time in the morning to cook your oatmeal, try this. My kids loved it.
Steel Cut Oatmeal: Take the time to make this hearty breakfast. It’s good for you AND tasty!
Maple Oatmeal: The sugar and maple syrup in this recipe make this oatmeal too hard to resist!
Some more ways to add oatmeal to your diet:
Use oatmeal instead of breadcrumbs in meatloaf. A bonus is more nutrition and fiber in your diet.
Adding some oats to your cookies will make you feel a little less guilty when you snack!
Use oatmeal to make your soup thicker. It will add flavor and richness to almost any soup.
