Cocktail Hour: Sex on the Beach

This week, I made THE classic girly cocktail: Sex on the Beach!  This fruity, sweet cocktail is more of a summer beverage, but I decided to ignore the chilly weather and make it anyways!  Read all about how to make it and what it tastes like after the jump.

This is a super-simple cocktail to make.  Here are the ingredients:

(view and rate the full recipe here!)

* 1 1/3 oz. vodka
* 2/3 oz. peach schnapps
* 1 1/3 oz. cranberry juice
* 1 1/3 oz. orange juice

All you need to do is throw the ingredients in a shaker with ice, and strain the mixture into a highball glass filled with ice.  If I were trying to be fancy-shmancy, I would throw in an umbrella and some orange slices, too.

I had a few friends over last night and the second I told them I made a Sex on the Beach, everyone insisted on having a sip.  Everyone adored it, therefore solidifying this cocktail as a female favorite.

Everyone seemed to notice something a little different about it, though.  One friend said that the peach flavor really stood out, while another said that the citrus flavor of the orange juice was the star of the show.

I agree that the peach flavor does stand out, even though there’s only two-thirds of an ounce of it in the drink.  This drink is definitely strong (almost half booze), but not strong in an undrinkable way.  The schnapps is sweet and doesn’t taste too alcoholic, so while you do taste some booze, it’s not anything like sipping on a martini.

Would I have this one again?  Of course!  I know I say this all the time, but it’s a great girls’ night drink and it would be fun to serve up in pitchers with some fresh fruit chunks as garnishes.

    Gosh, is there really that much alcohol in it? I used to drink this (and various others!) when clubbing, many years ago :)
