Cocktail Hour: Fruit Salad Drink

It’s Friday again and I’m back to cocktails, folks!  No more beer reviews for ya- just fruity, fun beverages from here on out.  Today’s cocktail is called a Fruit Salad Drink, probably because it contains every kind of juice known to man! Ok, that’s a little extreme, but you do need a bunch of ingredients for this one. I recently had a party, so I just happened to have tons of leftover mixers!

So here’s what you’ll be needing:

  • 1 1/2 oz. jigger vodka
  • 4 oz. pineapple juice
  • 1 oz. cranberry juice
  • 1 oz. orange juice
  • 1 oz. carbonated water
  • 1 Tbs. fresh lemon juice
  • 1 Tbs. lime juice

(view the full recipe here!)

(the little tupperwares are filled with the carbonated water, lemon, and lime juice)

And here’s how you make it:
Fill a tall glass with ice cubes. Pour in the vodka, pineapple juice, cranberry juice, a splash of orange juice and a splash of carbonated water. Add a quick squeeze of fresh lemon and lime. Stir and garnish with wedges of lemon and lime.
The only things I didn’t have this time were lemon and lime wedges.
The cocktail came out to a really pretty yellowish color with pink on the bottom.  After I mixed it up, it took on a nice golden hue.  It smelled great- when I gave it to my roommate, she squealed, “it smells like Froot Loops!“  Then she tasted it.  “It tastes like Froot Loops, too!”
I don’t know if I fully agree with it tasting like Froot Loops.  Froot Loops are incredibly sweet and sugary, and that’s not how these tasted.  Because of the lemon and lime juice added at the end, there was a bit of a tartness that seemed to dominate the flavor. It wasn’t so tart that I was puckering up, but this wasn’t a super sweet drink.  The only other flavor that really stood out was that of the pineapple juice (as you’d imagine).  So this drink kind of tasted like a pineapple-lemon-lime drink.
I definitely enjoyed it, though.  Since it only has 1 1/2 oz. of alcohol and a lot of juice, it’s perfect for people who don’ t like drinks that aren’t too strong. You just need to make sure that you’ve got plenty of mixers on hand at all times if you want to throw one of these together!
Why not try one of these other fruity drinks, too?

Vodka Strawberry Sensation

Nice recipe Kathryn. Great idea to create as a punch in a large bowl to serve at a cocktail party to keep mixing down to a minimum.
