Minnesota State Fair Food!

Yesterday I told you about some tasty Cuban food I had while I was on vacation in Minnesota.  Today I’m going to tell you about all the heart-stopping fair food I ate at the Minnesota State Fair!  Keep reading to find out what strange and fattening foods I munched on while I was there.

Between my boyfriend and I, there was a lot of eating going on.  Here’s what we had:

#1. A warm chocolate brownie, smothered in whipped cream, chocolate sauce, and caramel sauce.  Totally and completely indulgent.

#2. A giant hand-rolled pretzel that was brushed with butter and dipped in salt and minced garlic pieces.  YUM.  One of my favorite things we ate!

#3. An over-sized roasted turkey leg.  This actually tasted like, looked like, and felt like ham…either we were secretly eating a pig leg instead or there was something very wrong with that turkey…

#4. A“s’more on a stick.” This was a chocolate-covered marshmallow on a stick, rolled in graham cracker crumbs.  It wasn’t what I was expecting, but for 50 cents, it was a nice sweet treat.

#5. A portobello mushroom and veggie pita wrap.  This was a warm pita smothered with sauce (it tasted kind of like tzatziki) and stuffed with sauteed portobello mushrooms, onions, lettuce, and broccoli.  This was by far the best (and healthiest!) thing I had at the fair.

#6. A sparkling apple cider float.  Sparkling apple cider with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream floating in it.  It was pretty yummy, but I think I’ll stick to root beer for my floats.

Of course, there were many other crazy foods at the fair, such as salmon on a stick, a frozen mocha on a stick, fried pickles on a stick, and much more!  They even took fruit, deep-fried it, and put it on a stick!  Way to suck the nutrition out of that one!

I had a great time at the fair, though.  There were tons of rides, games, baby animals to pet, and foods to eat!  Read about some other festivals I’ve gone to and the foods I ate at them here:

I live right by the MN State Fairgrounds…so all year it’s a reminder of what’s to come…my favorite is the honey sunflower seed ice cream in the Agriculture building!
