I Want S’more!

smore-day

What a week of sweet-toothed goodness!  First it’s National Banana Split Day, then a Pop-Tart Cafe opens up in New York, and now it’s National S’mores Day!!  I can’t imagine a sweeter series of events.  Read more to learn about the  amazing desserts that are s’mores- we’ll even include some more yummy dessert recipes for you to try!

I was appalled when I found out that my friends from the UK didn’t know what s’mores were.  How could this be?  It’s probably due to the fact that s’mores are as American as they come.  In fact, the first record of this recipe was found in a 1927 edition of “Tramping and Trailing with the Girl Scouts.”

As the Girl Scouts clearly knew, s’mores are the ultimate camping recipe.  The ingredients are easy to tote and the dessert is easy to make; just add fire and you’re done!  If you’ve never made a s’more, you’re definitely missing out.  Here’s how to make one!

What you’ll need:

graham crackers, Hershey’s chocolate bars, and marshmallows

What to do:

1.Toast a marshmallow over an open flame to your desired doneness.  I prefer golden brown, but I know many people who purposely burn theirs to a crisp!

2. Sandwich your marshmallow and some chocolate squares in between two graham crackers.

3. EAT!

Yes, it’s as simple as that.  There’s nothing better than gooey marshmallow, melted chocolate, and sweet graham crackers all mushed together!  Mmm.
