Eating My Way Through the Taste of Chicago: Part 1
This weekend, I visited the Taste of Chicago with a couple of friends. My goal was to try out as many strange and exotic foods as possible, and I think I was pretty successful! Read more to check out the bizarre and delicious foods I ate!
Here’s what I feasted on during this massive food festival:
1. Mango Cumin Fries with Tamarind Chutney
These were from a Latin-Indian fusion restaurant called Vermilion. Before I bought them, I thought they would be fries made out of mango (like sweet potato fries), but they ended up just having mango and cumin seasoning. The result was a delicious and flavorful fry that tasted very exotic. The chutney was absolutely wonderful- I couldn’t get enough. One of my favorite dishes at the Taste.
2. Sauteed Goat with Coconut Rice
This dish was from an African restaurant called Iyanze. I was very excited to try goat for the first time but, unfortunately, it was not my favorite. The goat was incredibly tough and there were large bones attached to many of the pieces of meat. The coconut rice didn’t have any hint of coconut, or any flavor at all. A disappointment, to say the least.
3. Mango Rice Pudding with Dried Cranberries
This sweet treat came from The Grill On the Alley. It wasn’t the most daring choice I could have made, but it was definitely a good choice. Sweet rice pudding with some yummy, chewy cranberries was just what I needed and it was definitely delish. They even managed to keep it cool in 90 degree weather! Very impressive.
