Cocktail Hour: Caramel Apple and PB&J
This week, I didn’t feel like making a cocktail. I wanted something quicker, something easier, and something a bit more…potent. This week, I made shooters! And not just any shooters. The Caramel Apple shooter and PB&J shooters were super-delicious and tasted like they came straight out of my childhood!
Not many people equate alcoholic beverages with their childhood, but when your alcoholic beverages taste exactly like the lunch you used to bring to school, it’s hard not to! Let me take you through these 2 great recipes.
We’ll start with the Caramel Apple shooter.
This shooter only requires 2 things:
1/2 oz. apple schnapps
1/2 oz. butterscotch schnapps.
How do you make it? Pour the ingredients into a shot glass, do a little mixeroo, and serve! Easy as that.
This shot was buttery, rich, and delicious. It didn’t taste exactly like a real caramel apple, but it was pretty close. It tasted more like those caramel apple suckers you get at Halloween. However, I was sipping my shot (for tasting purposes) and not shooting it. Maybe if you do it all at once, it tastes more like the real thing. Either way, it was so yummy and definitely a smooth and easy shot to take.
Next, there was the PB&J shooter.
This one also required only 2 ingredients:
1/2 oz. Frangelico hazelnut liqueur
1/2 oz. Chambord black raspberry liqueur
This one requires you to shake the ingredients in a shaker with ice and strain the liquid into a shot glass. Still, that’s not too difficult.
This shot was the craziest thing I have ever experienced. Ok, that’s taking it a little too far, but it was pretty insane. If you held this shot up to your nose and sniffed, you would SWEAR that it was a real peanut butter and jelly sandwich, bread and all. It tasted like the real thing, too!
How did they compare? I sat there with my 2 shots, alternating sips and trying to decide which one I preferred. I kept leaning towards the PB&J, but when I’d try the Caramel Apple again, I’d change my mind. The caramel apple is very buttery and thick, while the PB&J is crisper, fresher-tasting, and easier to drink. I think they’re too different to choose between.
My suggestion for improvement is to switch the preparation for the 2 of these shots. The PB&J would have been better at room temperature and the Caramel Apple would have been crisper if it were cold. Other than that, I suggest you try these. NOW!
