Make an American Flag Cake this 4th of July!

Patriotic cake

This Fourth of July, I really want to blow away my friends and family by making something incredible.  It’s gotta be sweet, it’s gotta be good-looking, and, last but not least, it’s gotta be patriotic!  After some careful searching, I have decided to make an American Flag Cake.

But which American Flag Cake is the right one for me?  Let me take you through the flag cakes on Recipe4Living that I can choose from:

Barefoot Contessa’s Flag Cake: This cake features blueberries and raspberries, as well as a rich cream cheese icing.  It required you to pipe on the icing, however, which I don’t really trust myself to do properly!

Quick USA Cake: This cake actually uses cherry pie filling along with blueberries, which is an interesting twist.  It also uses dried coconut, which is my FAVORITE!

Fun American Flag Cake: This cake uses whipped topping, along with strawberries, blueberries, and marshmallows.  It also incorporates red Jello for gelatin-striped insides.

Red, White, and Blue Cream Cake: This cake is very similar to the Fun American Flag Cake, except that it also incorporates some additional ingredients, like vanilla pudding.  However, it seems like it might be a bit too complicated for me.

THE VERDICT: The Fun American Flag Cake has a little something extra that I like, but it still seems like it wouldn’t be too hard to make.  It even gives you tips on how to get the cake out of the pan (which I desperately need!)  Click here for a step-by-step tutorial on how to make this cake!
