Attention Foodies: Have You Tried Fiddme?

Food is definitely one of the most important parts of life.  We need it to survive, we use it to cope with stress and we  make it the center of our social life. That would explain why you can’t scan the Internet without seeing a recipe, a food advertisement, a food blog (like us!) or a food-related blurb.  If you’re a true foodie or just dream of becoming one, you have to check out this new social networking site that focuses on what else but – food!Put away thoughts of Facebook and Twitter (just temporarily) and check out Fiddme, the newest way to network, based on what you like to eat!  Their motto, “Eat. Drink & Tell the World,”  is exactly what you do on the site.  There are tons of food blogs on the web, which can be great resources for amazing new recipes, good writing and entertainment, but Fiddme will greatly expand your foodie horizons.

How many times have you thought of creating your own food blog, but just don’t have the time to keep up with it? Well, now you can share your passion for food just as easily as you update your Facebook status. After you create your free account, you can post away.  You can publish what you eat, where you eat it and even see what your friends are eating and where they are eating it.  There is even a mobile app for Fiddme so that you can post while eating.

With Fiddme, you gain followers as well as find people to follow. This creates your foodie network.  When you click on any user, you’ll see not only their latest meals, but also the places where they ate.  Each user’s display looks like this, “Allison Evans @ Alinea.” If you click on the restaurant, it takes you to a Google map of the location to make it easier for you to find! There is also a section that gives you more information about the restaurant: is it kosher, is there parking, is it smoke free, is there wireless Internet, is it kid-friendy and so on.

One of my favorite parts about the site  is having access to so many great pictures of food!   The Fiddme team also has a blog on the site where they feature active users’ dishes.  I have to admit, though, that I’ve gotten a lot hungrier since browsing the site!

I have only recently joined, but from the short time I’ve spent perusing the site, it’s amazing how global it is.  You will see users submitting posts from Spain, Israel, France, Italy, the U.S. along with plenty of other countries!

Here are some great recipes and information about various global foods and cuisines. If you loved Elizabeth Gilbert’s book, Eat, Pray, Love, about her travels through Italy, India and Indonesia, you have to try the menu inspired by her travels!

Fiddme is unique in its both local and global appeal.  If you’re interested in learning more about global cuisine, this is an obvious place for you to hang out and connect with other foodies. On the other hand, Fiddme also has great possibilities for connecting locals. If you live in Chicago, you might want to check out what’s being said about a particular restaurant before making reservations in the dark.

Fiddme also gives you the option to link your account with Facebook and Twitter accounts if you want to get your friends involved, too!
