New Pretzel M&Ms!

First, they were milk chocolate. Then, they were peanut. Next we saw peanut butter, dark chocolate, mint, crispy, almond, coconut, and orange. We have seen minis, premiums, pastels, and more. M&Ms have changed in color and flavor numerous times since their 1941 debut, and now they’re coming out with a brand new flavor. So, without any further ado, let me introduce to you: pretzel M&Ms!
I’m not big on changing the classics. I scoffed at the mint M&Ms and dumped the cripsy ones after a few bites. But I am actually very excited about the emergence of pretzel M&Ms!
If you ask me, combining sweet and salty almost always makes for a great treat. Chocolate-covered pretzels are one of my favorite desserts. My family always makes them around the holidays and we give them to people as gifts. Pretzel M&Ms seem to be a great way of getting all the flavor of chocolate-covered pretzels, but without the messiness.

Let’s see how they measure up, health-wise.
Pretzel M&Ms
150 calories
5 grams fat
3 grams saturated fat
16 grams sugar
150 mg sodium
Regular M&Ms
236 calories
10 grams fat
6 grams saturated fat
31 grams sugar
29 mg sodium
As you can see, pretzel M&Ms have half the fat and sugar, and significantly less calories than regular M&Ms, making them a slightly healthier snack choice. However, due to the pretzel bits inside, they contain about 5 times as much sodium as the regular M&Ms.
I, for one, can’t wait to try them, healthy or not! One of our Chew on That team members got to taste them and said that they were like “M&Ms with a little crunch inside.” Did she like them? Well, the only thing that was left of them was the empty wrapper. I think that speaks for itself!
Here are some great recipes that incorporate chocolate and pretzels:
Chocolate-Covered Pretzel Cheesecake
White Chocolate Pretzels
Pretzel Kisses
Millionaire Candies

Wait! There were ORANGE M&Ms? When? How did I miss that? I make it a point to always try any new M&M. I didn’t care for the cherry or coconut, but all the others have been great. However now I feel like a failure because I missed the orange. Darn!
