Lamb is the New Pork?
Recently, I have been reading all over the internet that “lamb is the new pork.” I don’t know who decided this, but it seems that we’ve all got to start changing our meat ASAP! Apparently, this year we’ll by saying goodbye to bacon and hello to lamb neck (huh?), so I have headed over to Recipe4Living to find some great lamb recipes. I also wanted to find out if lamb is healthy for you- come see what I learned!
If pork chops are out, then lamb chops must be in! These are the best-sounding lamb chop recipes I could find:
Lamb Chops with Peanut Sauce: Grilled chops with an Asian-inspired sauce, lime juice, and fresh ginger.
Roasted Mustard Lamb Chops: The combination of red onion and mustard gives these lamb chops a delicious and unique flavor!
Lamb Chops in Mushroom-Rosemary Wine Sauce: White wine, garlic, rosemary, and mushrooms combine to fill these chops with flavor.
And since grilling season has begun, I wanted to find some recipes for some juicy lamb burgers, as well. These looked promising!
Greek Lamb Burgers: Oregano, garlic and cumin season these tasty burgers topped with a creamy, yet not too rich, yogurt sauce with mint to really lighten it up.
Alan’s Grilled Spicy Lamb Burgers: Feta cheese, spices, mint and meat, all served in pita.
Lamb Burgers: This recipe uses Mrs. Dash seasoning to make it extra simple.
I couldn’t find any recipes for lamb neck but, supposedly, it will soon be a trendier version of the pork bacon we have all grown to know and love.
But is lamb even good for you? It turns out that lamb is full of zinc, a mineral that is essential to immune system function, as well as growth and tissue repair. Lamb also contains a great deal of your daily B vitamins, which are great for your metabolism. About half the fat in lamb, however, is saturated fat, so it is important to eat lamb only in moderation.
How do you feel about this switch to lamb? Will you give it a try or are you sticking to pork?
I, for one, don’t understand how any meat can become the “new” meat. Looking back on my life, I’m fairly certain that game hen has never taken over for chicken, nor has tilapia been put in salmon’s place. There are definitely trends in cooking, but I don’t think we’ll be seeing any Double Lamb Neck Cheeseburgers at McDonald’s anytime soon…
