Unexpected Fruits and Veggies

Scouring the food blogs today, I found a ton of food photos that caught me off guard. I was doing double-takes all over the place, whipping my head back thinking What’s that? An orange with green skin? And every now and then I like to put together a roundup of interesting food photos I find on other food blogs (like this one and this one). So now that I was finding all this exotic, gorgeous produce, it was…you guessed it, roundup time! See the rest of the photos after the jump!

This pomegranate from Wandering Chopsticks isn’t the type of pomegranate I’m used to. The kind I know has bright red skin and dark red seeds. This one has yellow skin with light pink seeds.

Before cutting into this exotic Japanese Aokiman fruit, you might think it’s a lime because of its green skin. The orange inside definitely caught be my surprise. It’s so beautiful. Thanks Kyoto Foodie!

Will you just look at those peas! Out of their pod, they look fairly normal, but who would have ever guessed their pods were purple?! Yum Blog used these gorgeous peas in a minestrone soup. I just can’t stop staring.

Speaking of not being able to stop staring, take a look at these cranberry beans that Amateur Gourmet bought. I didn’t know nature made beans this pretty! Did you?

Lastly, on our mini roundup, we have something that was more of an accident in nature than a regular occurrence. One woman growing tomatoes in her backyard discovered this particular tomato that looks like it has a strawberry growing inside. [via Serious Eats]

Now I know there is much more beautiful and exotic looking produce out there. What have you seen lately?
