What Was I Waiting For?!

Box View

When I went to Holland and Belgium, I saw these DeStrooper Waffles everywhere - in the gift shops, the chocolate shops, street stands - EVERYWHERE.

But did I try one? NO.

I just pranced right by, assuming I knew what they tasted like, assuming I was better than these waffles I had never experienced.

Well boy do I regret that.

I wound up spotting them at a local Sunset Foods and bought them for the sake of reliving my trip to Belgium. I was relieved to see that the box said Product of Belgium, verifying its authenticity as the real thing.

And let me tell you, after one taste, I was sold. It’s not a waffle my friend, it’s a cookie! A fantastically sweet, buttery, melt-in-your mouth cookie that makes me want to hop back on a plane to Belgium.

The commenter on my before and after posts who told me to make sure and try the stoopwaffels was completely right - why didn’t I listen in the first place? Lesson learned.

  1. And now you’ll want to melt some chocolate and dip them in it — that’s the other great secret of these cookies!

  2. I love those cookies! When I use to work at Cost Plus World Market sometimes the boxes would come in crushed, well I’m sure you can guess what happened to them!

  6. I tried those in Tokyo. While the ones in Asia may not be comparable to those from Belgium, I did not care for the taste at all! Too buttery for me!

  7. I still think the ones in Holland are the best. They are a bit too sweet for me though. I just like to nibble on them when I’m in front of the computer for long hours…like now…..:D

  8. Lydia - Oooh what a great idea!

Evil Chef Mom - Haha, I wouldn’t mind some crushed stroopwaffels!

JEP - Hope you find them!

    Sylvia - Try the waffles!

Karen - You might be able to find them in a local supermarket - I hope you do!

JDebs - If you don’t like butter (which I know you don’t) you probably won’t like them. I’m iffy on butter…I don’t like it as a condiment but the flavoring in this cookie is so tasty.

Tigerfish - They are sweet, but so so good! And yea I saw them all over Holland :)

  9. Hi, are these the same as a pizzelle cookie? I have a pizzelle iron (similar to a waffle iron) and they look just like these. Just wondering! Thanks! Edie
