Chocolate covered oddities

When I was younger, my family had a joke where if my brothers or I didn’t want to eat a certain vegetable (namely asparagus), the rest of us would shout “dip it in chocolate!” Unfortunately for my own antics, we never actually dipped asparagus in chocolate (there may have been one time where I squirted chocolate sauce on my plate next to it).
BUT, after scouring the Internet, I’ve found some interesting chocolate dipped creations that make chocolate-dipped asparagus sound pretty tame.
For instance, one can cook up a batch of Chocolate Covered Potato Chips (Caley even wrote about Recipe4Living’s Potato Chip Brownies before my time at Chew on That), or prepare some Chocolate Seaweed. Yes, people can get pretty crazy with chocolate sometimes; so much so that Recipe4Living has a recipe for Chocolate Covered Bugs! Ok fine, they’re not real bugs…but there are real ones out there!
But to me, the craziest-sounding and most intriguing of them all is the Chocolate Covered Pickle. I mean, who would think to cover a slimy salty pickle in chocolate? It sounds disgusting and delicious at the same time.
This post was inspired by the Chocolate Covered Blueberries from Trader Joe’s I’ve been popping into my mouth all afternoon. Speaking of things covered in chocolate, Trader Joe’s seems to have a knack for such creations. Dark Chocolate Edamame anyone (scroll down)?
Anyway, I want to know, what interesting things have you seen dipped in chocolate?

There’s a Turkish company called Hleks that makes chocolate balls like M&Ms with pop rocks, as well as popping bubble gum, popping candy and popping drinks… http://www.hleks.com
As for the Israeli stuff… Just keep your eyes open I guess.

Posted by Chew On That » Blog Archive » Leftovers, leftovers, and more leftovers at October 10th, 2007, 4:57 pmI think the oddest chocolate flavored candy has to be chocolate Pez. I have never tried them, but I can’t imagine what they taste like considering the taste of other Pez candy. I found them on this website for those who are feeling adventurous. Check it out.
